Collaborative Research Recruitment

Although from the outside our lab appears to be categorized as basic biology, the interests of its members vary considerably. We keep the larvae of many species of invertebrates in our lab, and are happy to show specimens to those expressing an interest. If you would like to participate in our studies, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Profile

For 30 years, I have worked with the starfish Patiria pectinifera. I collect the starfish in April and September to obtain gametes as materials for our experiments. Since our campus is located in Yokohama, the adult starfish are unfortunate to be living in the big city. However, everyone at our lab has a kind heart, and after the experiments, the starfish are released back into the sea. I especially enjoy handling cells that have been dissociated from the embryonic bodies of starfish so as not only to analyze them in vitro, but to reconstruct them into embryonic and larval bodies.
